Parramatta Light Rail project has reached another major milestone on August 30, as the NSW Government organized an industry briefing where more than 500 world-leading Australian and international companies attended. The project’s Expressions of Interest (EOI) procurement for the remediation of the project stabling and maintenance facility and operations control centre at Camellia is now underway.
For Stage 1 of the project, four contracts are to be procured and involve:
• Early works – remediation of land to be used as the site for the light rail stabling and maintenance facility;
• Enabling works – includes adjustments to the road network, stormwater drainage and utilities relocation, urban design, architecture and landscaping;
• Infrastructure contract – design and construction of the light rail network;
• Supply, operate and maintain contract – supply light rail vehicles; operate and maintain the light rail system and light rail vehicles.
On 23 August, the NSW Government has launched the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on Parramatta Light Rail to allow for community and stakeholder feedback until 23 October. “We are getting on with the job of delivering this important infrastructure project and I encourage the community to get involved and help shape this exciting project for Western Sydney,” Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Andrew Constance said.
The project’s Stage 1 consists in the construction of 12 km double tracks linking Westmead to Carlingford via Parramatta CBD and Camellia. Construction of the project is expected to commence in mid-2018 (subject to planning approval) with services commencing in 2023.
