New South Wales Prime Minister Gladys Berejiklian launched at Moore Park the excavation work on the Sydney Light Rail tunnel, on August 27.
“This is an important step forward as we power ahead with building the new light rail. This transformative project is really taking shape now with more than 10,000 metres of track laid and the first light rail vehicle set to undergo testing later this year,” Berejiklian said.
Since April last year, more than 84,000 tonnes of fill has been excavated, and more than 2000 tonnes of Australian steel have been used to build the 517m light rail tunnel underneath Moore Park West.
The CBD and South East Light Rail is a new light rail network for Sydney, currently under construction. The 12km route will feature 19 stops, extending from Circular Quay along George Street to Central Station, through Surry Hills to Moore Park, then to Kensington and Kingsford via Anzac Parade and Randwick via Alison Road and High Street. Construction will be completed and services will start running in 2019.
