Russian authorities announced that the future Chelyabinsk-Yekaterinburg high-speed rail could be part of Eurasia high-speed rail corridor which will connect the cities of Berlin, Moscow, Astana and Beijing. “The elaboration of the financial model of Chelyabinsk-Yekaterinburg high-speed rail was completed and the justification of the investment will be analysed in the following phase”, said Governor of Chelyabinsk region, Boris Dubrovsky.
The length of Eurasia high-speed rail corridor, providing connection between the rail networks of China and Europe, will be of 9,447 thousand km. We remind that the 200-km long Chelyabinsk-Yekaterinburg high-speed rail, is a special project developed by “Ural Expressway” economic partnership.
Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions, as well as “RVM Capital” investment group, are part of the social capital of this partnership.
The project is implemented on public-private partnership principles as a private concession initiative. Chelyabinsk-Ekaterinburg high-speed rail is included in the first phase of the programme for the development of a high-speed rail network in the Russian Federation.
It is estimated that this project will be included in the new version of the Railway Transport Development Strategy in Russia by 2030.
Chinese company China Railway Group Limited will also be involved in the implementation of the project. The corresponding agreement was signed on 15 June by “Expressway Ural” and representatives of the Chinese corporation for around USD 2.5 billion.
After construction, Chelyabinsk-Ekaterinburg high-speed railway will reduce the travel time between the two cities from to 1 hour 10 minutes instead of the five hours now.
