Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has asked the Moscow government to allocate RUB 100 billion (USD 1.7 billion) to modernise the infrastructure along Transsiberian and Baikal-Amur railway lines. The financial allocation is exclusively for 2017and for 2018 the two railways will receive another financial support, worth RUB 50 billion (USD 846 million).
“The funds for this year will have to be allocated by November 1st and will be allocated from the National Welfare Fund,” a report published on the Kremlin website reveals.
In addition, President Vladimir Putin has also urged the government to develop, alongside the organisations involved or interested in the modernization of the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur railway lines, also the port infrastructures present along the two routes. At the same time, the government must develop a series of plans to support the most important carriers and customers of the two rail routes. Implementation of these strategies must take place by December 1st, 2017.
