RZD may increase rail cargo discount to promote traffic

RZD may obtain the right to provide an up to 55% discount for cargo deliveries within the tariff range. The initiative will cover second and third-class cargoes including oil, grain, fertilizers, containers and metals shipped to less 1,100 kilometers. Currently, a 50% discount for these types of cargos is effective.
In March 2016, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich ordered the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) to consider the step until July. A FAS representative said a higher discount may increase RZD’s traffic, decrease prices for end users and allow the company to “react to the commodity market needs more flexibly.”
