“CFR Calatori plans to identify solutions that would reflect in the provided services, to meet passengers’ needs and to determine the increase of railway transport share. Railway transport contributes to the development of the whole transport system, connected industries and, therefore, has a great contribution to economic development”, declared Iosif Szentes, General Manager of CFR Calatori during INFRATRANS®, organised by the Romanian Railway Engineers Association and Club Feroviar.
CFR Calatori tries to develop and improve passenger transport services, one of the significant projects to be initiated being the procurement of rolling stock. According to estimates, to meet mobility demands, it is necessary to buy over 100 electric and diesel units to be put into operation on the railways that provide connections between Romania’s main cities. In April, CFR Calatori announced it proposed a state budget grant of over 2 billion (EUR 437.7 million) and the identification of other financial resources to cover the investment needs of the vehicle procurement project. Currently, the company’s rolling stock fleet includes 1,532 units of which 1,050 coaches of different types, 126 multiple-units, 8 electric units and 348 locomotives.
Organised on 23-24 May 2017 in Gara de Nord (Bucharest North Station), INFRATRANS® included the exhibition of stands, the rolling stock exhibition and the job fair. The event was carried out under the aegies of the Romanian Ministry of Transport with the support of CFR SA, CFR Calatori, CFR Marfa, Metrorex, AFER and CENAFER.
