EIB to provide EUR 500 million for Bangalore metro

European Investment Bank has under appraisal the Bangalore metro project in India that involve the construction of 23 km metro line and the purchase of 96 metro cars.
The total cost of the project is EUR 1.63 billion, of which the proposed EIB finance is EUR 500 million.
The financing will be directed to the construction of Line 4 that will have 23 km and 18 stations, linking Gottigere to Nagawara. The line will have interchange stations with existing Line 2 and Line 3.
8.5 km of the line and 6 stations will be elevated double track and 14.5 km will be underground with 12 stations. The project involves the construction of a depot and maintenance workshop.
This May, the managing director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corp Pradeep Singh Kharola said that the civil work on the underground stretch is divided into four packages. As 12 TBMs will be used, the project is estimated to be completed in less than two years.
Currently, the Bangalore metro system has 2 lines in length of 31.5 km serving 30 stations. It is the second longest operational metro network in India after Delhi Metro.
