MAN Engines has delivered the first of its D2676 LE264 diesel engines to Alstom for Coradia Polyvalent regional train that will be delivered for Algeria and Senegal. The 6-cylinder in-line engines are suitable for the use in hot countries and will be installed in Coradia Polyvalent DMU railcars.
The 102 units of engines will be fitted in 17 railcars for SNTF, the Algerian National Company for Rail Transport and another 60 engines will be installed in 15 railcars destined for use in Senegal to connect the new airport and the city of Dakar.
In 2015, Alstom signed a EUR 200 million contract with Algeria’s SNTF to supply 17 Coradia Polyvalent inter-city trains. The first train will be delivered in January 2018. This investment is part of SNTF’s programme to modernise and extend its network. The trains will link Algiers to destinations such as Oran, Annaba, Constantine and Béchar. With a total length of 110 metres, the train has six carriages and provides capacity for 265 passengers.
At the end of 2016, Senegal’s Ministry of Infrastructure awarded Alstom a contract for the 15 regional trains. The Coradia Polyvalent train for Senegal is dual-mode (diesel/electric) and is capable of running at speeds of 160 km/h. With a total length of 72 meters, the train has four cars, a capacity of 400 passengers. The trains will run on the new line that will eventually connect the centre of Dakar to the new international airport Blaise Diagne (AIBD) in Diass, about 50 km from the city of Dakar, via the new town of Diamniadio. They will serve 14 stations over a distance of 57 km, which they will cover in 45 minutes.
