Romanian rolling stock manufacturer Electroputere VFU Pascani and Setrag (Gabon National Railway Company) signed an agreement to upgrade a first batch of 20 railcars for passenger transport to be used in the African state. Another 40 railcars will be modernised and delivered after the first 20.
The Electroputere VFU Pascani modernised railcars have new fully refurbished interiors, new floors and seats, they are equipped with air conditioning and LED display systems for passenger information. The traffic speed is 100 km/h and the trains will be operated on regional and shuttle lines.
Gabon has several programs to modernize rail infrastructure and rolling stock. Moreover, in the next few years, Gabon National Railway Company intends to build more than 800 kilometers of rail infrastructure.
