Milestone reached for Sydney LRT project

A milestone was reached for Sydney LRT with the completion of the first electrical substation, on Alison Road in Randwick, the terminus station of CBD and South East Light Rail project. The substation will be fitted out, as part of the systems and signalling work for the light rail network.
The final construction zone in Randwick was established on High Street, between Wansey Road and Avoca Street, at the end of March.
The CBD and South East Light Rail is a new light rail network for Sydney, currently under construction. The 12 km route will feature 19 stops, extending from Circular Quay along George Street to Central Station, through Surry Hills to Moore Park, then to Kensington and Kingsford via Anzac Parade and Randwick via Alison Road and High Street. Construction will be completed and services will start running in 2019.
New tracks were installed on George Street in zone five, near Market Street, and zone six outside the Queen Victoria Building. More track was also installed in zone two, near Circular Quay, where track work is nearing completion. In addition, the first track was laid in Surry Hills at the intersection of Elizabeth and Devonshire Streets.  Starting 5 May, the construction will start in zone one, Circular Quay east of George Street.
