Works on Northern Latitudinal Railway to start in 2018

The construction of Northern Latitudinal Railway project will be launched in 2018, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area Governor Dmitry Kobylkin said, RIA Novosti reports.
“I believe Russian Railways will research and survey the route this year, and we’ll launch construction of the project next year. The project is being supported at all levels. We need to complete the formalities for a government resolution or a presidential executive order; we’re making progress on this,” Kobylkin said.
The Northern Latitudinal Railway project, involves the construction of 707 km line linking Obskaya, Salekhard, Nadym, Khorei, Pangody, Novy Urengoi and Korotchayevo, and should be completed in 2022. Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, Gazprom, Russian Railways and Novatek are among involved parties.
The total cost of the project is USD 2.6 billion and the rail bridge over the Ob river is estimated at USD 957 million. The projected traffic volume on the line is 23.9 million tonnes (mainly gas condensate and oil cargo).
In January 2017, Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said that the financial model has been drafted and submitted to the Government.
