Ansaldo STS has presented the ERSAT and ERSAT EAV projects for satellite technology applied to the railway traffic management. ERSAT is the latest generation signaling project that interfaces and integrates – for the first time in Europe – the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) with the navigation and satellite positioning technology Galileo.
The ERSAT EAV project is part of the European research plan Horizon 2020. The project, coordinated by Ansaldo STS, has the final aim of defining and testing the evolution of ERTMS signalling system through train localization based on satellite technology.
The advantages of ERSAT EAV are: increased traffic capacity available to railway undertakings; guaranteed high railway safety standards and punctuality; reduced operating costs.
