Czech Rep.: working group to assess planned high speed rail links

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka wants to set up a working group to discuss plans for high speed rail links. The working group should include experts on transport, local development and the environment. Possible high-speed routes have been identified as Prague-Brno and Prague-Dresden (Germany), with a possible extension to Berlin and Hamburg.
At the beginning of 2016, Czech Transport Minister presented the conclusions of the Dresden-Prague HSR feasibility study.
In 2014, the EU agreed to cover the half of study’s cost; the total value of the study was EUR 1.26 million.
The new line is to complete the European rail axis linking the central and southern Europe, from Athens to Dresden.
The state of Saxony and the Czech Ministry of Transport developed the project with the aid of Czech and German consultants, infrastructure managers DB Networks and SŽDC, Freiberg Technical University, and Saxony’s State Office for the Environment, Agriculture, and Geology.
