US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) may finance 50 per cent of total cost of Durham and Orange counties’ light rail transit project. The value of the project is estimated at USD 2.27 billion.
In December 2016, GoTriangle submitted an application to the FTA to move the project into the engineering phase on behalf of the two counties.
The project involves the construction of 29.5 km line and with 18 stops, from UNC Hospitals to North Carolina Central University.
The D‐O LRT project will serve more than 26,000 passenger trips per day.
