Warsaw West station to be transformed into a transport hub

PKP Polish Railway Lines is preparing a comprehensive reconstruction project for Warsaw West railway station. Under the project, the station will be constructed as a transport hub offering connections to the tram and bus system, and will have car and bicycles parking areas. The works are projected to start in 2019 and will be completed in 2021. In addition, the project includes the modernisation of the diametrical line for which works are scheduled to be launched after 2020.
“PKP Polish Railway Lines together with its partners prepared a detailed reconstruction of the Warsaw West station. Now we have an architectural and functional passenger concept for the station. In the near future we will choose the contractor for project documentation. Warsaw West will be multimodal transport hub. Passengers will have convenient and efficient connection between railways and public transport systems,” Włodzimierz Żmuda, Member of the Management Board, Director for Investment Quality and Operational Risk said.
For the new station concept, Polish Railway worked with IDOM Consulting, Engineering and Architecture, with two architects, Tomasz Głębowski and Maja Kwiatek-Głębowska, from Glebowski Studio.
Warsaw West is one of the country’s busiest rail stations with 60 thousand passengers per day. By 2030 the passenger traffic is expected to double.
