Yucatán State to invest in rail infrastructure

Yucatan-Mexic_IMG_1447-660x330The local government of Mexico’s Yucatán state will invest 200 million pesos (USD 9.1 million) as part of a project to build an extension of a railway branch to the new industrial zone in Hunucmá.

“In 2017, we will build a new railway line to the new Hunucmá industrial area and a new railway operations center, which will ensure that the industrial companies that are coming to Yucatan have the optimal means of transport to carry out their activities using the railway,” Governor Rolando Zapata Bello announced.

This will allow “Grupo Modelo” Industrial complex, “Empaques Universales” factory, a Food Processing Plant and logistics group Kekén Trailmex to take advantage of this new railway line.

The railways of Yucatan will equip the territory with a new logistics and economic dynamics with the construction of a branch to the industrial zone of Hunucmá and a new operations center, said the technical secretary of Planning and Evaluation, Guillermo Cortes González.

He pointed out that the aforementioned Railway Operations Center will consist of three stages that consider a maneuvering yard, a locomotive maintenance workshop, warehouses and customs as part of the operating areas.

Regarding the new railway, Cortés González detailed that it will cover an extension of 15.7 kilometers to Umán.
