Russian Railways plan to launch locomotives without operators, senior vice-president of the company, Valentin Gapanovich, announced at a session of technical committees.
„In three or five years, there will be major changes. We will introduce innovative technologies with an artificial intelligence. There will be no operator’s assistants, and, in a while, there will be no operators either,” claimed Valentin Gapanovich.
He noted that unmanned locomotives are already operating at a Luzhskaya-Sortirovochnaya station in the Leningrad region. The experiment was started in Ust-Lug in summer 2015. “We have a lot of new technologies,” Gapanovich stressed.
