Hitachi Rail Italy has presented a new mock-up of double deck regional train for Trenitalia. In January 20, the company announced that it has started the production of the train, named Rock.
The framework agreement signed by Hitachi Rail Italy and Trenitalia provides for the possibility to supply up to 300 trains for a total amount of about EUR 2.6 billion.
The new Rock train, composed by 5 cars, 136 m long and 2.8 wide, will have a total capacity of 656 passengers (top of range of the sector), and 4 motor bogies that will allow to reach a speed of 160 km/h.
The train, characterized by light alloy carbodies, traction motors distributed along the entire vehicle and wide passengers areas, will allow performances unique on the market in terms of weight per passenger, transport capacity per length unit, consumption per passenger/km (-30% with respect to the more recent trains in operation in Italy) and will guarantee different fittings of the interiors and different arrangements according to the diverse operation requirements of the Regions customers.
