Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) and General Electric Transportation signed an agreement for the acquisition of 50% of the shares of the Locomotive Assembly Plant (Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty – LKZ) in Astana. The plant is a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Railways.
“We have been in partnership with General Electric Transportation company. At the same time, the latest “Evolution” series with more than 300 locomotives produces are used not only in the country but also abroad, in the neighbouring countries. The agreement with a strategic investor is in accordance with the “100 concrete steps” within the framework of the national project to upgrade the infrastructure of the railway sector and the privatization program for the development of railway vehicles, the Astana Locomotive Assembly Plant President Kanat Alpysbayev said.
„Our plant is a step in the further development of the enterprise, to guarantee the order to improve the performance of the locomotives”, Astana Locomotive Assembly Plant vice-president, Victor Perminov, informs.
To date, the Locomotive Assembly Plant fully meet the needs of the locomotives. Altogether, 302 freight and passenger TÉZZA and 20 TÉPZZ A locomotives were delivered to export in Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan.
