India launched new double track project

indian_railwaysThe Chief Minister of Assam (northeastern India) Sarbananda Sonowal and India’s Minister for Railways Rajen Gohain have marked the works on doubling of 44.92 km of railway line on Hojai-Lumding section.
The lack of double lines in Assam has been a critical bottleneck for train movements and the project of doubling of railway line from Hojai to Lumding will create additional carrying capacity for the railways and improve punctuality of trains.
The minister Gohain announced that doubling of railway tracks from Bongaigaon to Guwahati via Goalpara and Digaru to Hojai would start in October and it would be  completed within three years.
This year, the government has approved two projects for doubling the Ranchi-Bondamunda and Kiul-Gaya railway lines with a total of 282.5 km. The doubling of the Ranchi-Bondamunda railway line, which spans 158.5 km, will have a completion cost of EUR 257 million. The project is expected to be completed in the next six years.
The doubling of the 124 km Kiul-Gaya railway line has a completion cost of EUR 181 million. Doubling of this line will greatly ease the ever increasing freight traffic between these sections. The project is likely to be completed by 2019-20.
