European Investment Bank has under evaluation the project on Casablanca’s second tramway line that will connect the city on east-west axis and the extension of thee first line Lissasfa (2 km). The entire project involves the construction of 15 km as the second line, from Ain Diab to Ain Sebaa, the construction of 22 stations of which 20 stations will be built under the second line anf a maintenance facility.
The total value of the project is EUR 262 million, of which EIB’s proposed financing is EUR 60 million.
The tram line 2 contract has been won by Turkish company Yapi Merkezi under a USD 95 million contract, followed by the call for tenders launched by Casa-Transport, the public authority in charge of infrastructure, at the beginning of 2016. This second line will be equipped as the first tram line, with Citadis trams manufactured by Alstom, as per the signed agreement between the Moroccan and French Governments.
Casablanca T2 construction is 29 months, and it should begin in 2018. Under the urban transport development strategy, the tramway network of Casablanca is expected to cover 110 kilometers by 2022.
