Line 11 of the Shanghai metro was extended to the Disney theme park, using a 7.4km U-shaped viaduct, designed by Systra.
The U-type viaduct, a speciality of the SYSTRA Group, has proved again to be the solution of choice for the Shanghai metro. For this project, SYSTRA carried out the design of the “U” beams, piers and standard headers for 7.4km of viaduct, in order to make the connection to the new “Disney” terminus. The project provides two new stations built on viaducts, and one underground. This extension was opened to the public in March, with the theme park itself opening its doors in June.
The “Disney” line brings to 60 the number of kilometres of “SYSTRA U-viaduct” constructed for the Shanghai metro network.
Currently one of the longest networks in the world, the Shanghai Metro spans 617km and has 16 lines, serving 366 stations.
