Romania’s CFR SA and Metrorex to submit European financing calls of EUR 2.5 billion

romaniaOn 30 May, the Romanian Ministry of European Funds (MFE) launched financing calls for road, railway and metro infrastructure development projects with a budget of EUR 5.8 billion from the Operational Programme Large Infrastructure.
Financing demands for all calls could be submitted from 1 June 2016 to 31 December 2018 for both phased projects (which have not been completed until the end of 2015), and new projects which have priority in financing in conformity with the sectoral strategic planning documents.
The total budget for the railway and metro infrastructure call is EUR 2.53 billion.
Railway infrastructure projects aimed at finalising the Rhine-Danube railway corridor (modernisation of the railway between the Hungarian border and Constanta), ensuring the mobility growth on the core TEN-T railway network, as well as the modernisation, increase of railway transport efficiency and competitiveness.
The budget of the financing call is EUR 1.85 billion, the eligible applicants being CFR SA, the Romanian Ministry of Transport and other relevant categories of beneficiaries, such as the authority in charge with the railway reform.
The metro infrastructure projects are aimed at improving urban and periurban transport conditions by promoting metro transport as an alternative to surface public transport, reducing travel time and increasing the comfort and safety of passengers.
The budget of the financing call is around EUR 682 million and the eligible applicant is Metrorex.
