A consortium of Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and Yapı Merkezi bid for a 751,7 km Addis – Ababa (Ethiopia) – Djibouti railway line to operate and provide maintenance management. The construction of this is almost completed and Ethiopia’s export and import transport will rely on this new line.
The project also attracted Chinese companies, thus, a Chinese consortium CCECC and CREC also bid for this line.
This bid is a milestone for Turkish State Railways. TCDD bids for the first time abroad its railway network. TCDD said that if they win the tender for Ethiopia Railway, more than 300 TCDD employees will work on this project.
