The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission approved the Grade Crossing Protective Fund grants to the value of USD 40,000 to make safety upgrades at a rail crossing in Grays Harbor County. The grant was awarded at the request of the Puget Sound & Pacific Railroad.
The railroad requested the funds to replace an outdated train detection technology system, upgrade the software, and replace a damaged gate mechanism at the crossing located at Sargent Boulevard and PSAP’s track in Aberdeen. Each project will receive $20,000.
The upgrades will improve safety by providing reliable warning to pedestrians and motorists of approaching trains and must be completed by 31 December.
An average of 1,310 vehicles use the crossing daily, including two school buses. Currently, eight freight trains use the crossing each day.
