South Africa: tenders could be declared invalid

02-south africaPrasa, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa, has asked the High Court to declare two contracts awarded to the Siyangena Technologies security company invalid, Bloomberg reports. The two contracts are worth about 4 billion rand (USD 250 million). The contracts were awarded to Siyangena Technologies for the supply and installation of integrated security-access management systems at rail stations.
According to Prasa, the company was given an advantage through “bid-rigging” and the agreements were coupled with alleged “corrupt activities.” The tenders were designed so that only Siyangena could supply the equipment, Prasa said.
