On February 1, Swedish national consultation agency Sverigeförhandlingen has begun consultation process with local authorities for the preferred route of Ostlänken HSR or East Link Project. The infrastructure manager Trafikverket estimates that this month will launch the procurement for the project.
The construction of the project will be splited into 15 packages with a total value of SEK 60-75 billion (EUR 6.4- 8 billion). This represents that for each package, the value is situated between SEK 4 and 5 billion (EUR 427 million and EUR 534 million).
Ostlänken is the first step towards a new high-speed railway network that will link together Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. Ostlänken will pass centrally through some of Sweden’s largest cities and various types of landscape – all with their own special conditions. Examples of critical passages that we have identified are Kolmården, Trosaån Valley, Göta Canal and Skavsta Airport.
Five stations are planned along the line. At the village Vagnhärad, in the municipality of Trosa, a new transit hub is to be constructed immediately north of the community. At Nyköping, one route is planned to continue directly to Skavsta Airport, where a station is planned, and a secondary line which will run via the centre of Nyköping, where a new transit hub will be built. In Norrköping and Linköping, new transit hubs are planned to be sited in somewhat different locations than they are today, but still centrally within the cities.
The East Link Project is approximately 150 km long and will be planned for trains travelling at speeds of up to 320 km/h and will connect the existing main lines in Järna, Norrköping and Linköping, so that it will be possible to operate the same train the whole way from Stockholm to Copenhagen. The East Link is also a part of a future high-speed railway from Stockholm via Jönköping to Göteborg (Gothenburg) or to Malmö/Copenhagen. The project involves the construction of 29 overpasses, 27 tunnels with a total length of 25km and 126 bridges.
