Indian Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated the works module of the Indian Railways E-Procurement System (IREPS). This portal will enable the railway company to implement e-governance in works contracts with facilities like the creation and publication of tenders online, the enabling of tenderers to view tenders, as well as to submit the requisite amount and bid offers online. The portal was developed by the Indian Railways in association with the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), an IT arm of the Ministry of Railways.
The new portal will lead to a reduction in hassles related to the tendering process, cost and time savings, increases in the ease of working, efficiency, as well as competition, and the reduction of complaints related to the tendering process and easy access to information.
