Qatar Rail on entered the Guinness Book of World Records for simultaneously operating the maximum number of tunnel boring machines (TBMs) in one city. The company has currently been operating 21 TBMs in Doha, that completed 50 percent of the 113-km long tunneling works.
“We received this recognition along with an international certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the tremendous efforts of Qatar Rail’s team, who has worked hard since the beginning to plan and execute our large scale and complex construction and drilling works, and confront all major challenges that are faced everyday. I would also like to thank all the concerned parties and stakeholders who continuously seek to overcome the obstacles and difficulties for the success of the Doha Metro project,” Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, Qatar Rail Managing Director said.
Qatar Rail implements the Doha Metro project with envisages, in the first phase, the construction of 4 new metro lines totaling a length of 86 kilometers and 38 stations. When completed in 2026, the network will have 230 kilometers of rail lines and 95 stations.
