The Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway is being currently under construction in Iran and it is expected to be completed in 2016, the Iranian news agency ISNA informs quoting Masoud Nasr Isfahani, the deputy director of the construction of transport infrastructure company under the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
„The infrastructure is 90 percent ready in some sections of the railway. That this railway is very important for Iran”he said.
The railway corridor should have been commissioned late 2014.
„The railway is being rapidly constructed,” Isfahani said. “Most of the work on the Qazvin-Rasht section has been fulfilled. I hope that the work on the railway section up to Astara will be accelerated and completed in the near future.”
The Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway is part of the North-South transport corridor. The investments made in the construction are estimated at USD400 million.
