Pakistan, Iran and Turkey are working on relaunching Turkey – Pakistan Gül train (formerly known as ECO train). As announced by Pakistan Railways, the meeting will be held soon with the participation of Pakistan, Iran and Turkish Railways to finalize the organization of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) train between Turkey and Pakistan via Iran.
The train will be operated between Pakistan and Turkey via Iran. The aforementioned decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Pakistan Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique at Turkish Railways headquarters. Several matters of common interest were discussed in the meeting including the ECO train, manufacturing at Locomotive Factory Risalpur and Rawalpindi Carriage Factory, and expanding Turkish stake in Pakistan Railways. This initiative is intended to facilitate the transfer of technology and make it easier for Turkish investors to assess opportunities in Pakistan’s Railway industry.
The train connects Islamabad, Tehran and Istanbul by covering 6,500 kilometer in 16 days.
