Moscow Metro completed the construction works for 3,025-metre-long tunnel between the unfinished Likhobory electric train maintenance facility (under construction now) and the Okruzhnaya station of the Moscow Metro’s Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line, using the Valentina mechanised tunnel-boring system.
The system, with an external diametre of six metres, features an earth pressure balance and is best adapted for boring tunnels in difficult hydro-geological conditions.
First, the mechanised system linked the train maintenance facility with the metro line itself, before boring the right-hand tunnel between the Verkhnye Likhobory and Okruzhnaya stations, operating up to 65 metres beneath the ground.
Construction of the 10.3-kilometre-long northern section of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line between the Maryina Roshcha and Seligerskaya stations was launched in 2011. Apart from the train maintenance facility, the line will have six stations: Butyrskaya, Fonvizinskaya, Petrovsko-Razumovskaya (where passengers will be able to change to the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya Line), Okruzhnaya, Verkhnye Likhobory and Seligerskaya.
Once opened, Likhobory will become the main facility for maintaining and repairing electric trains and other rolling stock of the Moscow Metro’s Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line.
