Railway company BDZ will suspend 38 trains starting with 12 January due to a reduction of its subsidies by 40 million levs (20.44 million euros). Another 10 trains will operate on shortened routes. The company will first suspend “the most inefficient” trains which are used by the smallest number of people. Further trains will be suspended from February. The reduced subsidies will force the company to cut a total of 5 million train-km. BDZ will also have to reduce the number of employees, by 1,500 people.
