Turkmenistan and Georgia signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in transport on December 15. Both countries confirmed the intention to create a transport corridor to the European and Persian Gulf markets.
The parties seek to implement a program for building a transit and transport corridor to link Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey (the Lapis Lazuli transport corridor) due to the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway line, which has recently opened. The transport corridor is expected to give an impetus to social and economic restoration of Afghanistan, increase trade relations and involve the country in key regional projects and the international infrastructure.
