Starting with 28 December 2014, MTR will launch new transport services on MTR Island Line extension, to Western District, after receiving green lights from the relevant authorities that all the required statutory inspections and tests have been successfully completed. MTR Island Line trains will begin serving HKU and Kennedy Town stations.
The MTR West Island Line (WIL) is an extension of the existing 13km long Island Line which connects Sheung Wan, Western District to Chai Wan, Eastern District, Hong Kong.
The works on railway project was officially launched in 2009 and the projectcost was HK$15.4bn (EUR 1.6 bn as per 2008 pricing).
