Alstom to deliver more Traxx locomotives to CLIP Intermodal

Alstom has signed a contract with CLIP Intermodal for the delivery of five third-generation Traxx Universal multi-system locomotives. The new units will be homologated for operation across Poland, Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary.

The locomotives will be manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Kassel, Germany, while the car body shells will be produced at the company’s site in Wrocław, Poland.

This agreement follows previous contracts signed in early 2024 for 13 locomotives, bringing the total number of Traxx Universal locomotives ordered by CLIP Intermodal to 18. These units will be approved for operation in Poland, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, and France. In addition to manufacturing, the contracts include two years of preventive maintenance services during the warranty period.

“The purchase of an additional five Traxx 3 MS locomotives is another step towards strengthening CLIP Intermodal’s position in the European market,” said Agnieszka Hipś, President of the Management Board of CLIP Group S.A. “This step is a natural consequence of the company’s dynamic development, including the expansion of the Intermodal Terminal in Swarzędz. Thanks to the new locomotives, the company will be able to further enhance sustainable intermodal transport, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improving traffic safety.”

The third-generation Traxx Universal multi-system locomotives are known for their high operational efficiency, reliability, and energy efficiency. Designed to handle heavier loads than others in their class, they are based on a modular platform used for both passenger and freight transport across domestic and international routes. The locomotives have been approved in 20 countries and collectively cover over 300 million kilometres annually.

“Alstom’s modern solutions have been supporting efficient and environmentally friendly intermodal transport for many years,” said Beata Rusinowicz, Managing Director of Alstom in Poland, Ukraine, and the Baltic States. “We are pleased with this additional contract for Traxx locomotives, which will serve both domestic and international rail transport. We are confident that these locomotives will strengthen CLIP Intermodal’s position and support further growth in low-emission European transport corridors.”

The newly ordered units will be capable of reaching a top speed of 160 km/h and will be equipped with Alstom’s Onvia Cab signalling system. This ETCS onboard solution ensures extensive coverage across different countries and rail networks, supporting both ETCS and legacy system operations.
