Adif AV has launched a EUR 1.7 million design tender for the first track laying of the Basque Y rail corridor that will link the three capitals of the Basque Country.
The tender involves the drafting of two projects, a prior step to the tendering of the works. The first one is for the construction of the assembly base from which the track will be laid out on the Vitoria – Bilbao branch of the Y network, for an amount of EUR 1 million, and the second involves the undertake the track laying works on the Gipuzkoa section, for EUR 714,214 euros.
Adif AV is making progress on the projects for the next phase of the development of the high-speed line while completing the construction of the platform between Vitoria and Bilbao, which is a 90.8 km Biscayan branch. The platform for the 80 km Gipuzkoa section, whose construction was undertaken by the Government of the Basque Country, is now complete.
The project for the assembly base for the Vitoria – Bergara – Bilbao junction section will define the location and ch aracteristics of its construction through a connection to the railway network, space for storing all the elements that make up the tracks (ballast, rail, sleepers and switch), gantry cranes for their transfer, solar panels for energy supply, and a warehouse for office and storage, among other facilities. Once the line is put into service, this facility will become a maintenance base.
As regards the project to lay tracks on the Gipuzkoa branch line, the project defines the works for their assembly in the 15 sub-sections into which this route has been structured between the Bergara junction, San Sebastián/Donosti and Astigarraga.
The infrastructure manager is embarking on a new phase in the ongoing development of the Vitoria/Gasteiz – Bilbao – Donostia/San Sebastián – French border high-speed line, promoting different works in different areas.
Adif is currently completing the platform of the Vitoria – Bilbao branch for which 14 of the sections have already been completed and 5 are under construction, including three of the six sections that make up the Bergara Junction, with the Elorrio – Atxondo section being recently completed.
Adif is also working on the projects for access to the capital of Biscay and the remodelling of the Bilbao Abando station and is making progress on the deployment of the third rail on the 19 km Astigarraga – Irún section to adapt it for Iberian gauge and standard gauge up to the border, and on the transformation and expansion of this last station.
The route of the line between Bergara – Donostia/San Sebastián has already completed the platform, which has been executed by the Basque Government with state funding from the Quota.
Adif AV is making progress on the track laying projects for the entire line, both the Gipuzkoa and Vizcayan branches, given that it has been entrusted with their implementation, and that of the rest of the railway equipment and systems including electrification, signalling and telecommunications.
This action is added to the latest undertaken for the development of this Basque Y rail corridor, a strategic connection for the Atlantic Corridor, such as the authorisation of the agreement with the Basque Government to build the new Astigarraga station and the signing of the corresponding agreement to undertake the Arkaute railway junction for integration in Vitoria-Gasteiz. In addition, it has just put out to tender the construction of the first section of the Burgos – Vitoria high-speed line, an axis that connects the ‘Y’ to the rest of the 4,000 km high-speed network and this to the French border through Irún.
