Three new Kazakh-Chinese terminals are expected to be launched this year, the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) has announced. On February 21, 2025, the Director General of KTZ took a visit in China, being received by Fan Hongwei, the Secretary of the CPC Party Committee of Xi’an, which discussed about plans to be implemented this year and in 2026.
The two sides approved the development plans for this year, which include the launch of a logistics complex in Almaty (GTS-2), the opening of a new logistics center – the CRK Terminal at the Selyatino station in the Moscow Region of Russia and the launch of a terminal in the port of Alyat in Azerbaijan.
In 2026, logistics centres and terminals will be also launched at the Svisloch station in Belarus and in Budapest, Hungary.
An integrated approach and dynamic implementation of projects will allow next year to form a full-fledged network of terminals in the East – West direction, which will be an important step in the development of the Kazakhstan’s transit and transport potential.
The two officials noted that last year, more than 5,000 trains were sent from the Xi’an Dry Port on the China – Europe direction, which is 25% of all shipments on this route and is a historical record.
Thanks to the work of the joint cargo terminal in Xi’an, as a key hub on the Middle Corridor route (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route), the volume of transport increased by 33 times in 2024.
To increase transport capacity and relieve bottlenecks, a number of international logistics projects are being implemented in partnership with the Xi’an Dry Port, which have a total investment exceeding USD 200 million.
During the negotiations, it was emphasised that the agreements being implemented have transformed close-knit cooperation into a strategic alliance that forms reliable logistics chains and opens new opportunities for the growth of cargo traffic and the development of the transport industries of Kazakhstan and China, for which the new Kazakh-Chinese terminals will play a vital role.
