Ukrzaliznytsia has completed the relocation of a border train inspection point to Mostyska II station, near the Ukrainian-Polish border in the Lviv region. The project was carried out with financial support from the Connecting Europe Facility and the European Investment Bank.
“We continue to accelerate Ukraine’s progress towards the EU by improving border infrastructure. With the new inspection point at Mostyska II station, we can double the area’s crossing capacity—from 15 trains per day to 30—boosting freight transport and expediting passenger services,” said Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukrzaliznytsia has played a crucial role in ensuring the movement of people, goods, and military support. EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, praised the railway’s resilience: “Thanks to ‘Iron Diplomacy,’ diplomats can travel safely and work more effectively to support Ukraine’s victory. The modernisation of Mostyska II is a major step in strengthening rail connectivity, deepening ties with the EU, and expanding passenger and freight traffic.”
Before the project, border inspections took place at Mostyska – State Border point, with an average processing time of nearly two hours per train. The new inspection facility features four towers for rolling stock inspections, dedicated modules for border control officers, kennels for detector dogs, a surveillance system with 30 cameras, and upgraded overhead contact line segmentation.
Ukrzaliznytsia continues to modernise its railway infrastructure under the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility programme. Current efforts focus on improving intermodal terminals and enhancing key routes connecting Ukraine with the EU to streamline logistics and optimise border crossings.
