Siemens Mobility has been awarded a technical support and spares contract for the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by general contractor SMH Rail. The contract covers planned maintenance following eight years of operation, ensuring continued reliability for the metro system.
Over a 40-month period, Siemens Mobility will provide key components, subsystems, technical supervision, and staff training to SMH Rail. This agreement strengthens Siemens’ presence in Malaysia’s public transport sector, building on its previous work on the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT
“We are pleased to extend our long-standing partnership with the Kuala Lumpur metro system through this important maintenance contract,” said Elmar Zeiler, CEO of Siemens Mobility Customer Service. “Our expertise in rail technology and commitment to sustainability will help ensure the continued efficient operation of this vital transportation network.”
“Siemens Mobility’s proven capabilities and collaborative approach make it the ideal partner for reconditioning the trains on our Kajang MRT Line. We look forward to working closely with their team to optimise performance and extend the lifespan of these essential metro assets,” Datuk PK Nara, Chairman and Managing Director of SMH Rail, added.
Siemens Mobility previously supplied the Klang Valley MRT Kajang Line with key components, including traction converters, train control systems, and bogies. Local assembly was carried out by SMH Rail under Siemens’ supervision.
To enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness, the new contract also includes expert training and supervision from Siemens Mobility Thailand, leveraging its experience in full-service projects for Bangkok’s Blue and Green Lines.
