New Taipei’s metro expansion progressing as scheduled

The development of the Three Rings and Six Lines metro network, which will enhance connectivity between Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan, is progressing steadily. The San-Ying Line is on track for completion by the end of this year, having entered the train testing phase. Over the Lunar New Year period, core electromechanical system testing will continue without interruption, and in April, the line will begin driverless operation simulations.

Platform screen doors and ticket gates are currently being installed, with the signature “San-Ying Blue” design offering a calming visual aesthetic. Meanwhile, the Sike-Toudong Line has exceeded its construction progress targets by 3%, with main structural work set to begin in March. The New Taipei Metro Corporation remains committed to delivering both projects on schedule and to the highest quality standards.

New Taipei San-Ying Line advances toward completion

New Taipei Metro Corporation Director-General Lee Cheng-An highlighted the significant milestones achieved on the San-Ying Line in the past year. In September, test runs were successfully conducted on the main segment between LB04 (Hengxi Station) and LB06 (Sanxia Station). By October, track installation was completed across the entire line, and in November, high-speed dynamic testing began. The next major phase will take place in April, with driverless operation simulations between LB04 (Hengxi Station) and LB08 (Yingge Station), keeping the project on course for completion by year-end.

As of December 2024, overall progress on the San-Ying Line had reached 81.2%. In addition to train testing, key infrastructure elements—including the main power substation, maintenance depot, operations control center, and parking facilities—have been completed. Interior finishing, water and environmental systems, and electromechanical installations are ongoing. Platform screen doors and automatic fare gates are also being installed at stations, with 50% of platform doors already in place. The stations, accented with light blue tones, are designed to create a relaxing environment for future passengers.

Sike-Toudong Line main Construction to begin in March

Another major metro project, the Sike-Toudong Line, is also making progress. Pre-construction preparations began in late December 2023, focusing on resolving potential utility conflicts ahead of full-scale metro construction. The preliminary phase has reached 27% completion, exceeding projections by 3%. Key achievements include the relocation of water pipelines along Datong Road Sections 1 and 2, improving water supply reliability.

Road resurfacing in the construction areas was completed before the Lunar New Year to ensure a smooth and safe holiday travel experience for residents.

Additionally, road widening efforts on Jilin Street and Fude 3rd Road—expanding them to 16 meters—are advancing rapidly, with completion targeted for early 2026.

Both metro projects mark significant progress in New Taipei’s urban transit expansion, aiming to enhance public transport connectivity while improving daily commutes for residents.
