Vietnam SuperPort signs agreements to enhance railway logistics

Vietnam SuperPort has entered into two strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Transport Development & Strategy Institute (TDSI) and the China Railway 16th Bureau Group. These agreements aim to improve Vietnam’s railway logistics infrastructure and support regional trade connectivity.

The agreement with TDSI focuses on implementing Vietnam’s national railway development strategy, positioning Vietnam SuperPort as a key logistics hub. The collaboration includes research into new railway lines and stations, utilizing the SuperPort’s strategic location within the Northern Economic Corridor.

Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Director of the Department of Transport, highlighted the significance of the partnership in advancing Vietnam’s transportation systems. Nguyen Thi Phuong Hien, Deputy Director of TDSI, emphasized the role of Vietnam SuperPort in enhancing connectivity and economic growth.

Collaboration with China Railway 16th Bureau Group

The second MoU, signed with the China Railway 16th Bureau Group, focuses on constructing a railway freight terminal and integrating it into Vietnam’s national railway network. The project aims to improve cross-border freight transport between Vietnam and China, contributing to enhanced regional logistics integration.

Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort, stated that the SuperPort is committed to developing multimodal logistics infrastructure that integrates road, air, sea, and rail transport. The initiative aligns with the SuperPort’s target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

“Enhancing railway connectivity is a critical step in strengthening Vietnam’s logistics capabilities and its integration into global supply chains,” Dr. Yap said.

Strengthening Vietnam’s logistics role

The agreements underline Vietnam SuperPort’s growing role as a logistics hub, aiming to improve the efficiency and sustainability of transport systems. These partnerships are expected to contribute to Vietnam’s economic development and bolster its position in regional and global supply chains.

Through these initiatives, Vietnam seeks to advance its logistics infrastructure and reinforce its role in regional trade and connectivity.
