Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has selected Nose Design Experience as the design consultant for the development of its new train fleet.
Nose Design Experience will be responsible for the complete interior and exterior design of the new trains, ensuring a seamless integration of cutting-edge aesthetics and advanced technology. These new trains will elevate rail travel on the Arabian Peninsula in terms of passenger comfort, travel experience, and reliability.
The design language will reflect the SAR brand and the rich cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It will also underline the vision of positioning SAR as a leading provider of transport and logistics solutions, delivering first-class services to its customers.
The design of the high-speed trains will be developed based on the latest European and international standards, tailored specifically to the unique climate and environmental conditions in Saudi Arabia. Nose will closely collaborate with Stadler’s engineering team in Bussnang.
In February 2024, Saudi Arabia Railways awarded Stadler a USD 687 million contract for the supply of 10 new trains including an option for another 10 trainsets. The contract also covers the provision of full maintenance support and spare parts for a period of 10 years with an option to be extended to additional 10 trainsets for 10 years.
The new trains will be approx. 175m long, self propelled with two independent diesel-electric power heads meeting the latest European emission standards stage V and cater for approx. 320 passengers. The new trainsets will elevate train travel in the Kingdom to the next level in terms of passenger comfort, travel experience and reliability. They will be ready to operate on SAR´s growing railway network throughout the country and will connect the growing cities of the Kingdom including Riyadh, with the coastal city of Dammam on the Arabian Gulf.
With this train contract, SAR is taking the next step towards the Vision 2030 development of their railway operation.
