PKP Intercity awards over EUR 3.8 billion in contracts for Polish manufacturers

PKP Intercity has contracted rolling stock contracts worth over PLN 16.5 billion (EUR 3.8 billion) gross with Polish manufacturers and repair plants. In the second half of this year alone, the carrier concluded contracts worth nearly PLN 9.4 billion gross (EUR 2.1 billion).

PKP Intercity, preparing for the liberalization of the transport market in Poland, is investing in modern rolling stock. The carrier has already signed contracts for the purchase and modernization of locomotives, wagons and electric multiple units worth over PLN 16.5 billion gross (EUR 3.8 billion). This amount will go to Polish manufacturers of rail vehicles and repair plants.

The highest value orders are being carried out for PKP Intercity by Newag SA. Contracts have been signed with the manufacturer from Nowy Sącz for the delivery of a total of 78 multi-system locomotives with a speed of 200 km/h and 66 single-system electric locomotives with a speed of 160 km/h. In addition, Newag SA is to produce 35 dual-drive traction units. The amount of all contracts is PLN 7.7 billion gross (EUR 1.7 billion).

PKP Intercity has invested PLN 5.4 billion gross (EUR 1.2 billion) in rolling stock manufactured by H. Cegielski – Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych. In Poznań, repair projects at the P5 level are already being implemented, along with the modernization of 172 wagons. Additionally, in July this year, a contract worth PLN 4.2 billion (EUR 968 million) was signed for the delivery of 300 new wagons.

Nearly PLN 1 billion gross (EUR 230 million) is the value of contracts concluded between PKP Intercity and PESA Bydgoszcz and PESA Mińsk Mazowiecki. They include the purchase of 16 hybrid electric-diesel locomotives with a speed of up to 160 km/h, as well as the repair at the P5 level of 67 wagons of various types.

In November of this year, the carrier also signed contracts with the PKP Intercity Remtrak repair facility for almost PLN 1.5 billion gross (EUR 345 milliion) for the repair and modernization of 150 wagons. In addition, the plants in Opoczno and Opole are carrying out repairs and modernization of another 105 wagons. The total value of the concluded contracts amounts to over PLN 2.5 billion (EUR 576 million) gross.
