“The concluded contract is another order in the Polish industry, worth nearly PLN 1.5 billion, which will provide 150 modernised railcars. They will serve to further expand the transport offer of PKP Intercity. This contract is not only about modernisation. Above all, it is the first such contract in the history of the company, which provides maintenance at the P3 and P4 level for the railcars for the next 23 years. This is a new philosophy and direction of contracting for carriage maintenance, which will ensure the stabilization of the availability of rolling stock for the implementation of the timetable on the part of the carrier and the stabilization of the planning of production processes and supply chains on the part of the contractor, i.e. REMTRAK. Such a contract is a mutual benefit in the long term. So far, such contracts have only concerned new traction units,” says Adam Wawrzyniak, Member of the Management Board of PKP Intercity.

“The signing of today’s contracts is a very important moment for PKP Intercity Remtrak for the development and functioning of the Company. We are giving our engineers a very big challenge to develop the best possible product that will travel around Poland, as well as production directors who will physically perform these repairs and modernisations together with our employees. This contract also involves our planners, contracting department and service. We will be implementing such a large contract for the modernisation of 150 railcarss, including maintenance, for many years in our Production Plants: here in Libiszów near Opoczno, in Opole and in Warsaw, where we will be based mainly on Polish components. Thank you for this challenge and I assure you that we are able to meet it. We are waiting for the next contracts, which we will be implementing together with PKP Intercity SA,” says Tomasz Zelwowiec, President of PKP Intercity Remtrak.

Currently, PKP Intercity is implementing rolling stock contracts worth PLN 16.5 billion (EUR 3.8 billion) contracted in Polish industry. These orders are being implemented by entities such as the Poznań-based H. Cegielski Vehicle Factory, the Bydgoszcz-based Pesa Factory, Pesa Mińsk Mazowiecki and PKP Intercity Remtrak. They include the construction of modern locomotives, railcars and hybrid trains. The carrier recently gained over PLN 2 billion in EU funding (EUR 500 million) for locomotives and railcars contracts.
