PKP Intercity’s rating outlook changed to positive

Fitch Ratings has changed the outlook on PKP Intercity SA’s rating from stable to positive. The long-term domestic and foreign currency rating at BBB+ and the long-term national rating at AA (pol) have been maintained.

A positive assessment of PKP Intercity awarded by one of the most renowned rating agencies is a signal indicating, on the one hand, a good assessment of the company’s current financial situation, and on the other hand, it reflects a positive assessment of financial forecasts. The result obtained also results from PKP Intercity’s strong relations with the state treasury.

Fitch indicates that if the financial forecasts are confirmed during the company’s next review, the company’s rating may be equalized with Poland’s rating, which is currently at A-.

PKP Intercity rating: Rail transport is important for the economy

Fitch views rail transport as a key public service, and PKP Intercity has a growing share of this. This is due to the growing demand for intercity rail transport services, which is consistent with the European trend of increasing passenger numbers using rail.

This is proof of trust in us, our strategy and our actions aimed at increasing the efficiency and profitability of the Company. The rating obtained is also a confirmation of the positive assessment of our investment program, the implementation of which will contribute to the development of our offer and increase the comfort of travel,” comments Dagmara Zawadzka, Vice President of the Management Board of PKP Intercity SA

In the years 2025-2030 PKP Intercity plans to spend around PLN 21.9 billion (EUR 5 billion), most of the contracts have already been signed. Fitch emphasized that the company has experience in managing and financing large investment projects.
