The Commission awards EUR 37 million to CPK

On November 8, a conference on EU support for CPK rail projects was held at the CPK headquarters. It concerns PLN 162 million (EUR 37.33 million) from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for the implementation of design work on the Sieradz – Poznań line. The cooperation agreement (Grant Agreement) in this regard was signed by representatives of the Central Communication Port, the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy and the Centre for EU Transport Projects.

Line no. 85 on the Sieradz – Kalisz – Pleszew – Poznań section is an important part of the “Y”, the High Speed Rail network connecting Warsaw and Łódź with Poznań and Wrocław. The 480- kilometer investment will significantly shorten travel times between these cities, free up the capacity of existing railway lines for new passenger and freight traffic, and will also include a new airport in this transport system.

The EU support is the best proof that the project now has a solid economic basis , is based on numbers and traffic forecasts. It will not only shorten travel times between four of the five largest cities in the country, but will also contribute to the development of the trans-European rail network TEN-T within the so-called transport corridor North Sea – Baltic’,” emphasized Dariusz Klimczak, Minister of Infrastructure.

The launch of the Sieradz–Poznań high-speed rail section in 2035 will allow the train to cover this route in less than 100 minutes, which is significantly faster than at present. This will be possible thanks to the increase in operating speed to 300–320 km/h .

As part of the co-financed contracts, the task will include, among others, developing a construction project and obtaining a decision on determining the location of the railway line. The contracts end with obtaining a final decision on a building permit , which will allow the commencement of construction works and the transfer of the investment to operation by 2035.

The construction of important railway lines in the heart of Europe is intended to facilitate the efficient transport of people and goods, ensure access to jobs and services, and enable trade and economic development.

EUR 115 million for CPK rail projects

The CPK company has already received approximately PLN 500 million in EU (EUR 115 million) support for preparatory work for the construction of “Y”. This includes, among others, co -financing the development of design documentation for the Warsaw – Łódź Niciarniana section or design work for the long-distance tunnel in Łódź, including its connection to line no. 14. We are preparing applications for further funds,” added Dr. Filip Czernicki, president of CPK.

The implementation of the projects will enable further important steps to be taken towards achieving one of the strategic goals of the CPK company, which is the construction of the High-Speed Railway network based on the “ Y ”.

European funds are once again helping to connect both different parts of Poland and the entire country with other countries in our region. The signed agreement provides over PLN 160 million in funding for the preparation of the project documentation and the implementation of preparatory works: all activities preceding the actual stage of construction of the new railway line from Sieradz to Poznań. This brings us significantly closer to the implementation of the High Speed Rail network in Poland! The idea of a super-fast connection between Warsaw and Łódź, Poznań, Wrocław and Berlin is finally becoming a fact,” said Joanna Lech, director of the Centre for EU Transport Projects.
