Trenitalia has unveiled its new brand – “Regionale” which is focused on both commuters, students, workers and tourists as well as on real style-based sustainability, accessibility, innovation and attention to people who travel by train.
The new concept has been presented by the CEO of Trenitalia Luigi Corradi, the Rome Ostiense station at the beginning of October.
The new identity and the complete revisitation are characterised by a green colour and soft, clean lines, defining a simple, sustainability-oriented approach as the distinctive value of the service.
The launch of the new identity and the complete redesign of the train liveries reinforce this phase of great changes and transformations that regional transport is undergoing. They also testify to the work done and the ability to look ahead, in line with the needs of a generation on the move between change, sensitivity to environmental issues, and transformation of the way of travelling.
Regionale wants to be a symbol strongly rooted in the collective imagination of travellers, and also a strategic choice that aims to enhance communities, territories and metropolitan areas, where interconnection with other modes of transport becomes fundamental.
With over 400 million passengers a year and more than 6,000 daily trips, Regionale is getting ready to meet new challenges that look at sustainability in its triple environmental, economic and social nature.
In 15 years, Trenitalia’s regional transport has undergone a real revolution, in terms of new trains and services, which are increasingly based on inter-modality, together with comfort that, over time, has garnered the positive opinion of passengers and the recognition of stakeholders. These are the results of constant commitment and close cooperation with the various regions involved, which have led to the conclusion of long-term service contracts.
This synergy has enabled the delivery of 500 regional trains through a constantly evolving renewal process. By 2027, the number of new trains will exceed 700 units, including double-deck, single-deck and hybrid electric trains and battery trains.
From 2018 to 2027, Italy invests EUR 7 billion for rolling stock renewal and an additional EUR 3 billion for technology implementation and advanced maintenance. FS Group is concentrating on the regional rail passenger transport for which within the next years, 80% of the fleet will be renewed.
The new trains consume 30% less than the previous ones and are 97% recyclable. Sustainable trains, but also increasingly comfortable and technologically designed for a generation on the move who wants to make a difference by choosing sustainable mobility solutions such as cycling.
Regionale, a service provided by Trenitalia, also supports intermodality with over 180 services which can be purchased on all company’s channels in a single solution “train+bus”, ships and ferries, to reach even the most remote and less known destinations and thus promote an increasingly sustainable tourism, thanks to the use of the Regional Link.
The increase in regional rail passenger transport is also accompanied by growing digitalisation, given that 40% of regional travel tickets are now purchased via digital channels. For this reason, from October 19, passengers who decide to go to the ticket office are able to choose whether to purchase a paper or digital travel ticket. In this case, the characteristics and methods of use of the ticket are the same as the regional digital ticket purchased online, with the possibility for passengers to receive all the information relating to the trip on their device.
Italy’s regional rail passenger train fleet ensures 6,000 trips per day and more than 400 million passengers are transported in each year. The number of passengers who choose regional services for tourism, study or work is constantly growing and to support an ever-increasing demand, modern and more new trains are needed. Through its plans, the Italian company is carrying out the fleet renewal to ensure passengers benefit from fast and modern services delivered by new trains.
