The Spanish Government has approved a EUR 13.7 million tender for the construction of a maintenance facility for Murcia – Almería HSR.
Adif Alta Velocidad will build the facility in Murcia Mercancías logistics centre, which will be connected to the high speed line by constructing mixed gauge tracks from Barriomar/Nonduermas to its facilities, including the branch and the assembly of the connection devices with the Chinchilla – Cartagena conventional line.
The building for the new maintenance facility and transport service will have a surface area of more than 3,300 m2. In addition, civil protection and building equipment, perimeter fencing, paved access from the road and path network and a new parking space will be built.
The track around the logistics centre and two tracks in the material storage area and railway machinery maintenance parking area will also be adapted to mixed gauge and will be renovated.
This action, essential for the development of the line’s maintenance services, will also favour the transit of goods on standard gauge connections from or to Europe.
This action is in addition to the recent contracting of the construction of an assembly facility in Librilla from which the track will be deployed on the 60 km section that runs between Murcia and Lorca. This facility will later become a maintenance site for the line and the Murcia – Monforte del Cid route.
Murcia – Almería HSR is a strategic axis of the Mediterranean Corridor, with an investment of EUR 3.5 billion. In addition to the platform and track works, it is already underway to electrify the Murcia – Lorca section, with the construction of the substation and the laying of overhead lines. Works are also carried out on the Lorca – Almería section. In addition, Adif AV has awarded the contract for the installation of the ERTMS signalling system along the entire line.
The company has also contracted the installation of the most advanced safety and protection equipment on the Murcia – Nonduermas section, which includes the underground integration of the exit of the Murcia line in the direction of Almería. On the other hand, the Council of Ministers has recently authorised the tender for the deployment of the GSM-R mobile communications system on the high-speed line and the Pulpí – Águilas branch valued at EUR 26.3 million.
The new line will integrate Almería into the high-speed network, through the corridor to Levante, as well as into the Mediterranean Corridor and the European network, favouring the structuring and cohesion of the territories it crosses.
