Tended has announced its commencement of a trial in Ireland, with the deployment of its innovative geospatial technology within Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail. This marks the first time that Tended’s technology will be utilised on the Irish infrastructure, aimed at improving the safety of works on the rail network.
Delivered in partnership with AMC Training & Consultancy, who will be working closely with Irish Rail to implement the technology into their safety processes.
Specifically, Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail will implement the technology to support worksite safety by helping to ensure the correct placement of protection equipment such as marker boards and that track workers do not access planned work areas before it is safe to do so.
With record investment in the Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail network under the National Development Plan, Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail has a range of planned works and improvement projects, as well as essential maintenance, across the network. To support these works, Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail will also use geofencing to help prevent incidents that can cause project delays, such as points run throughs and engineering equipment left on the line.
As the operator of the national rail network in Ireland and with over 4,000 employees, Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail recognises the importance of implementing new technologies to enhance worker safety. The implementation of geofencing technology is a significant step towards achieving this goal, while also supporting the company while it undertakes major works across the network.
“We are very excited to be working with AMC to expand our reach internationally and work with Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail to improve track worker safety,” said Leo Scott Smith, CEO at Tended. “We’re looking forward to bringing our safety solutions to customers outside of the UK and helping them keep teams safe in high-risk environments.”
“By introducing geofencing technology at Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail, we aim to significantly reduce risks and further improve our safety standards for everyone working Lineside and On or Near the line. It’s an exciting step forward for track worker safety in Ireland and one that will move us closer to helping to prevent near misses and incidents both on and off track,” said David Flynn, CCE Safety Executive at Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail.
Recently expanding overseas into the Netherlands working with Dual Inventive, Tended is already working with customers outside of the UK to enhance safety and operations. Tended’s system is widely used across the UK, with multiple Network Rail routes and principal contractors using the technology to improve worksite operations.
